Regional Office of Agricultural Economics 5 conducted a study on alternative products in Chaiyaphum province. From December 6th to 9th, the Office of Agricultural Economics, Region 5, assigned Ms. Isaraporn Chaiakunna, the head of the Agricultural Economic Development Department, along with her team, to visit Chaiyaphum province. They visited the "Muanmai Chalerm Phra Kiat" Center and the community enterprise
for growing silk worms in Huai Bong sub-district, Mueang district, Chaiyaphum province. Ms. Bua-kai Temsin, the Outstanding Farmer in the field of silk worm cultivation for the year 2023, was also present. The purpose of the visit was to study the production costs, returns, market trends, and success factors of alternative crops, particularly silk worms. These alternative crops are intended to replace main crops such as rice and cassava, which are not suitable for cultivation in certain areas. This study is part of the "Agri_Map" project, which aims to manage and promote agricultural production based on agricultural zoning. Its goal is to develop potential alternative products to replace unsuitable crops in the fiscal year 2024. The project aims to provide farmers with comprehensive information to make efficient decisions in selecting agricultural products, reduce production costs, increase income, and minimize market risks. Moreover, the government and other relevant agencies can utilize the study findings to formulate policies, measures, and development strategies for appropriate agricultural product management based on the potential of each area. This will also serve as a guideline to support and enhance the income of farmers in the future.
